What We Believe
At Indian Christian Church, we believe the Bible is the only adequate guide for living a Christian life. We hope the following Statement of Belief will help you become better acquainted with the preaching and teaching emphasis you are likely to encounter at the Indian Christian Church.
God
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are equal and are one God.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again to earth to reign.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make us aware of our need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.
Human Nature
We are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. We are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although we have tremendous potential for good, we are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin.” This attitude separates us from God.
The Bible
The Bible is God’s Word. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.
Baptism
Based on Jesus’ example, and His commad every person who believes and decided to follow Jesus was baptized. Baptism is an outward sign of obedience to Christ. In baptism, a believer joins with Christ in His death and is given a new kind of life, one free from past sin and from death.Therefor those accepting Christ for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the gift of the Holy spirit ( Acts 2:38) should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized into Him.
Communion
Communion, or The Lord’s Supper, is practiced weekly, according to the example of the New Testament church. Communion consists of unleavened bread and grape juice and is open to all believers. The purpose of The Lord’s Supper is three-fold: to remind the church of the New Covenant with God, to acknowledge Christ’s death until He returns, and to promote a time of self-examination. The baptized persons may partake in the Communion.
Salvation
Salvation is a gift from God. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can we be saved from sin’s penalty.
Eternity
God created us to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or in union with God, through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence. Jesus Christ will one day return and reign forever as King of kings and Lord of lords.
