Planting an Indian church in New York City was a dream and prayer of Kerala Christian Mission ( www.kcm-india.org) India, for the past 20 years. The Lord is faithful and in 2008 Orchard Group ( www.orchardgroup.org) Church Planting initiated the Indian Project. By the grace of God and Orchard Group’s vision, the dream to serve over 500,000 Indians in metro New York came true.
Westchester is a large county north of the Bronx with a high concentration of Indians. We selected the name of the Church as Westchester Indian Christian Church. The primary focus of this ministry is planting a Biblical,live and a vibrant Church for the younger generation who born and brought up in the US abd training then to the leadership so that they can continue the ministry in coming years. Another focus will be the ministry among the Children. Our Children ministry session is known as "Kingdom Avenue".
Since India commemorates its 62nd year of independence from British rule on August 15th ( this day is similar to Independence Day in America) therefore we opened the Westchester Indian Christian Church (WICC) on Saturday, August 15th at 11am.
WICC is a non denominational Church and we are part of over 7000 independent christian churches in the United States (http://www.christianchurchtoday.com/articles/articles.asp?id=5061) and all around the world. The meeting place is Christ Chapel, 65 Crisfield Street, near Central Park Avenue in Yonkers. This neighborhood is a hub of activity among South Indians in Westchester County. Christian worship is 5-6:30pm on Sundays. The services will be bilingual (both Malayalam and English). This will allow us to serve the Malayalam-speaking community from Kerala ,as well as the younger generation born and brought up here in New York, and those who are here from any other states of India (in English). More over any one from any Nation can come an join in Christian Worship.
I am very happy to have the cooperation from our friends in American Christian Churches coming and serving us in many ways in the initial stages. I do hope that there will be various serving opportunities in the future to work together.
The main purpose and focus of this congregation is to build a community of people who Love God and Love people and Serve others with the God-given talents and thus the message of Christ will pass through us.
Therefore God builds His Church and we just join our hands with God - Amen
